I heard Mitt Romney on the radio the other day. He impressed me so much, that I wondered why I was not more supportive of him in the first place.
Nevertheless, I do not think it would be a good idea for John McCain to choose Romney as his Vice Presidential running mate. McCain is having an awfully hard time convincing politically conservative purists that he is a genuine conservative himself. Even as a moderate conservative myself, I sometimes wonder about McCain's views on things, e.g. Anwar, Guantanamo.
No way will the conservative South go for anybody from the Northeast. That is why Romney would not be a good choice, and why I do not think that Rudy would be a good choice either, as much as I grieve almost every day for the America's loss at not making him our next great President.
If McCain were smart, he would choose a southern conservative who is well-known and popular. I frankly would like if he chose Mike Huckabee, but I realize that many conservatives resent him for raising the sales tax by 1% when he was Governor of Arkansas.
Well, if not Romney, Rudy, or Huckabee, than who? I hesitate to suggest Fred Thompson, despite him being a well-known and popular southern conservative, just because of his lackluster attitude. He needs more fire in his belly!
I have heard that the governors of Louisiana and Florida have been brought up as possibilities, but I do not know enough about either one, to make any comments about them.
One thing is clear: a vote for obama is a vote for osama.
